The purpose of this page is to make you aware of the many advantages that the Greek community at Iowa State has to offer you. Upon coming to college, you will make many important decisions that will ultimately affect the rest of your life. There is much more to college than just classes, and it is up to you to take advantage of all the opportunities awaiting you.
One of the choices approaching you is deciding where to live. I hope that you give this serious consideration. Many current and graduate students of Iowa State have found their fraternity membership to be the most important experience outside the classroom. When you graduate from ISU four years from now, you will leave here with more than just a diploma in your hand. While living in a fraternity, you will learn to balance your schedule, improve your social skills, and gain a sense of maturity and responsibility. But the most important thing about living in a fraternity is that you will immediately have a large number of people you can depend on, trust, and alongside them form friendships that last a lifetime. Our chapter has three main ideals, which we strive to meet at all times: scholarship, hospitality, and unity.

We feel that our freshman academic program is the best in the Greek community. It is designed to complete your education at Iowa State, while incorporating a better way of approaching the academic scene so time is managed effectively towards studies. Furthermore, freshmen who pledge our chapter have a great opportunity to be successful in their chosen field due to the large amount of resources we provide. Undergraduate brothers can help you with your classes, we provide free tutors, and graduates offer job networking. In addition, our chapter also offers multiple scholarships ranging from
$500 to
$1500 for a variety of scholastic achievements.
Fiji has the resources you need to succeed. Fiji can give you what you need to maintain a respectable GPA while experiencing college life. Here are just a few benefits of joining Fiji!
- Every freshman who gets over a 3.0 gets a $500 scholarship.
- Freshmen get free tutors, paid through house funds
- Every year, alumni give four $1500 scholarships to our chapter.
- Greeks make up 11% of the undergraduate population, but comprise over half of the student leadership.
- We keep accurate and current records of course tests to study off of.
- Every freshman is paired with an older member of the house in the same or similar major, the older member will see to it that each freshman is successful in his classes by helping him with homework, studying, and providing guidance on selecting courses for the following semester
- We teach the incoming members the necessary time management skills to succeed.

Phi Gamma Delta also stresses hospitality. This includes showing hospitality to members of our own community and to anyone who visits our house. Each semester, our chapter volunteers for a number of community service projects. Last semester our members had a combined total of over 500 hours of community service! These projects included doing some extensive rebuilding at our local Y Camp, as well as volunteering our time at the Boys and Girls Club and the American Red Cross. But to us, hospitality is more than just a community service project here and there; it is a way of life.

Unity is perhaps the longest lasting value that we uphold. As a FIJI, you will make trusted and lifelong friends. You will become especially close to your pledge brothers, and there is no way to describe the camaraderie that develops until you experience it first hand. Phi Gamma Delta also discourages cliques, meaning that we constantly strive to promote close friendships among all members of the fraternity. So while living in the dormitories or an apartment is not a bad decision, very few college experiences can compare with living in a fraternity. From starting out by meeting fifty + guys, to seeing many of them at your wedding and alumni dinners years down the road, life as a Fiji will almost certainly complete your college experience and help you in your development along the way.

GPA can go a long way in the job application process directly out of college, but what really makes a person marketable and successful are the intangibles of character, integrity, and leadership. At Phi Gamma Delta, we have numerous opportunities for people to get involved, teaching our members the many skills that they can’t and won’t learn in a classroom.
From the 21 committee leadership positions to executive cabinet positions, each opportunity in the fraternity is designed to develop leadership in men through fun and engaging activities. Not only will you get the chance to plan socials with other Greek chapters, coordinate the construction and painting of homecoming spirit displays, manage a budget of several thousand dollars, keep-up a beautiful 100 year old house, plan philanthropies, coordinate intramurals, and coach Lip Sync teams for Greek Week, you will get to do so in a great environment with great people and make memories you’ll never forget.
Don't believe me? Let the facts speak for themselves:
- 43 out of 50 of North America's largest companies are headed by Greeks.
- 85% of Fortune 500 executives belong to a fraternity or sorority.
- All but three US Presidents belong to a fraternity.

The networking benefits that Phi Gamma Delta offers you as a new member far outweigh those of other living options. From day one at Fiji you step into a network of over 50 undergraduates and 850+ living alumni. If you are looking to get involved on campus, or just want to get to know more people on campus, Fiji is the best place to do so. Our undergraduates are involved in a variety of clubs and organizations at Iowa State and can facilitate you finding the club or organization for you, or meeting hundreds of new people through our social events with other fraternities and sororities.
Phi Gamma Delta's graduate base is involved in many aspects of industry, and is a great place to begin networking if you are looking for help with career placement after college, or internship/coop positions. Our graduates recognize the outstanding quality of the men of Fiji and are always looking for young minds to add to their industry, with an alumni base of more than 850 members you'll have trouble NOT finding a job!

Going to a new city and school can be a daunting transition. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if there were a group of people who could help? Becoming a member of Phi Gamma Delta is a great way to bridge that gap. FIJI interacts with the ISU and Ames communities in a variety of ways by participating in and planning events. We plan philanthropic events that benefit numerous causes. We plan and participate in numerous community service projects throughout the year. We are constantly working with other chapters in the Greek community and other organizations on campus. As a member of FIJI, you will develop a bond with the ISU and Ames community during your college years. Phi Gamma Delta offers you the chance to make Ames more like a second home than just a place where you go to school for a few years.
