Meet our House Mom!
Name: Joyce Allen
Biography: Grew up around Iowa State University as her father got his degree here and proceeded to run one of the ISU extension offices. She is the mother of three grown daughters and has been blessed with __ grandchildren. Joyce raised her three daughters here in Ames while she worked at Poppies on Main. During this time, she got experience being a house mother at another ISU fraternity. Later, she moved to Texas to be with one daughters who was having kids at the time. After coming back to Ames for a few years, she decided to open her own business in Clear Lake, IA. She has been operating her women’s boutique for the past five years. This past spring, Joyce decided that it was time to “retire” and decided to look into becoming a house mother again. FIJI was lucky enough to be looking for one at just the right time, and is blessed to have her as house mother.
Joyce does many things around the house. This is just a brief look at what she does for us:
- Teaching etiquette lessons
- Inviting members of the Ames and ISU community over to the chapter house for dinner
- Keeping us active in the community, and keeping the community aware of what we’re doing
- Just hanging our with the guys
- Being a willing ear for anyone who needs it
- Cooking dinner (every once in a while)
- Maintaining communications with other house mothers in the Greek community
